The Suomenlinna sea fortress is a unique, layered cluster of islands where Ice Age–shaped rocks, meadows, old trees, the open waves of the Baltic Sea, and centuries of history breathe together. It offers an exceptional setting to experience the scientifically proven wellbeing and health benefits of nature.

In a guided forest bathing session (shinrin-yoku in Japanese), we slow down, open all our senses, and allow the islands and the sea’s enchanting beauty to captivate, calm, and rejuvenate us as we truly pause to experience them. The sense of hurry fades within fifteen minutes.

During the experience we move gently across Suomenlinna’s green rocks and paths, marvel at the varied views, and let the sound of waves, the cries of seabirds, the scent of the sea, and the whisper of the wind refresh us. The gentle, research-based sensory, observation, and nature-connection exercises require no prior experience.

Forest bathing is an excellent addition to meeting or corporate wellbeing days. It clarifies thinking, effectively reduces stress, boosts creativity, creates a wordless sense of connection, and supports recovery by activating the parasympathetic nervous system. At the same time, we receive a dose of nature’s beneficial microbes essential for immune health – sometimes called “Vitamin Ö.”

The experience is delivered with deep respect for Suomenlinna’s sensitive environment and follows regenerative principles: we leave the place at least as good as we found it. Part of the proceeds is donated to the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation to protect forests.
